Fiber

During each of our weekly LeTip meetings, members have the opportunity to speak for 7 minutes to share about their business and what a good tip or business lead would be. Only members are permitted to speak at our meetings. This is one of the great privileges of our networking group. It is a core fiber of our networking organization.

Fiber, soluble or insoluble, is one preferable to another? No. It is important to get a mixture of both soluble and insoluble. And lucky for us, this variety can be found in Mother Nature. However, according to the National Cancer Institute, the average american consumes only 10-20 grams per day which falls short of their recommended 20-30 grams of daily fiber for adults.

So what is fiber and how do I bridge the gap?

An essential "non-nutrient", fiber is a complex of indigestible carbohydrates that provide cellular structure to the plant foods we eat. Fiber occurs in the skin and pulp of fruits and vegetables, plus seeds, nuts, grains, and legumes. Soluble fiber is delivered as gums and pectins. Insoluble fiber is provided as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.

Fruits, vegetables and grains vary considerably in the quantity and type of fiber they contain. For example leafy cabbage, young peas, and other immature plants provide a good deal of cellulose, but very little lignin. Bran supplies high levels of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin - but contains no pectin or gums. SO diversity in your diet is key!!
